Pilates for Weight Loss

by The Core Expert

Weight loss as a bonus of Pilates

The shift from targeted weight loss to overall health and wellness has never been more prevalent in today’s world. My methodology lends itself to an improvement in total mind-body wellness. The element of weight loss happens as a simple byproduct that often accompanies the purpose of my platform, which is to offer anyone and everyone an opportunity to live a better life. One of the many tools I offer, so that one may understand the bigger picture- the transformation towards true health in body, mind, and spirit- is FBI: Full Body Integration. We work from the inside out focusing on proper form and function. Many of my Pilates at home videos are derived from a mix of Classical Pilates, Yoga, HITT, bio-mechanics, mindfulness and holistic nutrition. Experiencing weight loss from any of my Pilates videos is a bonus.

Pilates for Mental and Spiritual Health

An estimated 80 to 90 percent of visits to the doctor are stress-related. Fortunately there are practices I teach in my streaming videos to train your body and your mind to be able to manage and better cope with stress, thus improving your overall health and well-being.

One example of my methodology that focuses on this is my “Burn and Breathe Yoga,” series. In it we practice mindful breathing in order to cultivate a balanced state of being. Breathing mindfully creates a sense of calm in both our mind and our body. If we can learn to stay in this type of mindset during intense physical challenges then we can also subconsciously incorporate this into our daily lives in order to create calm across the board.

The Core Expert™ Series Introduction

Pilates vs. Cardio or Pilates + Cardio for Weight Loss?

If you would like to practice Pilates for weight loss, I suggest adding cardio when you’re feeling like you want to add that extra challenge to your daily movement sequences. I offer a multitude of videos in both areas of fitness.

I teach the importance of listening to your body. Using the energy in your body, cardio will burn calories at a high level and will work out the entire body, however doing cardio when you are stressed can elevate those levels in your body overproducing stress hormones like Cortisol. So if you’re feeling stressed or anxious try one of my seated Pilates or Mat Pilates classes and save the Cardio for another day.

Unlike the high intensity feeling of Cardio, Pilates is a slow and controlled system that lends itself to the toning, lengthening, and strengthening of your CORE muscles. Pilates uses deep muscle recruitment to get your body moving and flowing toward the ultimate mind-body connection, which is an excellent way to achieve both full-body strength & flexibility, as well as weight loss.

The general nature of Pilates focuses on proper breathing, and breath is the throughline in connecting the mind to the body. The results of consistent Pilates training will improve your overall well being significantly. This includes, but is not limited to, weight loss, toning, flexibility, strength, and a deep connection of Body, Mind, and Spirit.

Balancing the practice of both my Pilates and Cardio workouts will get your heart rate up, give you mental clarity, tone and strengthen your body, burn calories, and can additionally lead to weight loss.

I have a number of varying levels of difficulty in both my Pilates and Cardio classes. Mix and match any of these videos in my series for a well-rounded, full, body-mind-spirit experience.
